At the same time I wish to express my deepest respect for all the victims and all other Falun Gong practitioners. "Organ transplantation is the only medical activity which involves - apart from medical professionals - the society as a whole, with a manifestation of its most humane act - organ donation after death. Organ donation is an act of a conscious decision and is performed under strict rules. Therefore, any attempt for compulsory removal of human organs for the purpose of transplantation, must be condemned and prosecuted. Most European countries, including Bulgaria, have adopted the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism. I fully support the Universal Declaration on Combating and Preventing Forced Organ Harvesting from living people. The altruistic organ donation is the one and only way to secure equal access to those in need of organs for transplantation."

Its content is more important to me than its formal form and the fact that it is not (yet) conceived in the same Universalist way as other documents of international (including EU) human rights law, which are sources of hard (positively applicable) and soft (expressing legal consciousness and/or principles) international law.

"Those Chinese politicians who accept the forced removal of organs for transplantation from living people - by killing them - are misanthropic, and their immoral conduct could surpass only legitimate cannibalism. Prisoners sentenced to death are not and cannot be considered as organ or tissue donors. This is contrary to all norms and values of medical ethics, morality and moral values. "During World War II, Jan Karski, a young diplomat-turned-courier for the Polish Underground volunteered to carry to the Free World an eyewitness report of the destruction of the Jewish people of Poland by the Nazi Germany. He described the inaction of the Free World as mankind’s “second Original Sin”. Holocaust was one of the most heinous atrocities committed in the 20th century. Barbaric acts of forced organ harvesting carried by Communist China’s regime are one of the worst mass atrocities of this century. The Declaration and creating a uniform code against forced organ harvesting are an opportunity for actions. They are steps that do not allow history repeats itself. Jan Karski, a Polish hero, once said: “I was an insignificant man. My mission was important.” By supporting the Declaration we participate in a mission to save lives. There is no more important task than that one."

What the regime in China does to it´s citizens is horrible. The world needs to act to stop the violence to innocent people. The leaders of China must know that we know what is going on, and that they have to end their brutality against the Chinese people. "I want to sign the Universal Declaration on Combating and Preventing Forced Organ Harvesting, because as a scientist in the field of sociology. I perceive free decision-making about my own body, life and death as one of the fundamental rights of the individual and a great civilizational achievement of modern times. The right to inviolability and free choice in all matters relating to the body should be a universal human right, independent of the political and social context, cultural and religious traditions, age, gender and other characteristics. Consequently, I strongly oppose all controversial and extremely unethical practices of forced and involuntary organ harvesting for the purposes of transplantation, trafficking and earnings without the knowledge or against the will of the individual. It is somewhat unfortunate that as a human community, despite tremendous advances in science and increasingly in-depth knowledge of the nature of the human essence, we are still unable to recognize the ethical and moral controversy of these practices and effectively prevent them. The fight against practices of forced organ harvesting must be global and prosecute and sanction both states and individuals who carry out and allow the practices in question as those who purchase forcibly removed organs."

"It should be obvious that a necessary condition of organs retrieval for transplantation should be a consent made by the dead person or by a family member of the decedent. Meanwhile various independent sources confirm that Chinese communist authorities are involved in forced organs harvesting. Many prisoners of conscience were executed for their organs without due process. A particularly cruel example is the extraction of corneas from living persons. Even Chinese medical officials admit that organs were extracted without consent. The reason for doing so is obvious and has a twofold purpose: the income from the transplant and to intimidate those considered by the authorities to be a threat. Such conduct should be condemned by every honest person."

I thank the initiators of the "Universal Declaration on Combatting and Preventing Forced Organ Harvesting" for their necessary and admirable work to make the world aware of the atrocities committed by Communist China: the so-called organ harvesting. Organ harvesting, in short, is the cutting out of organs from Chinese prisoners - without their consent. The prestigious journal BMJ Open published an article a few years ago documenting that from January 2000 to April 2017, more than 85,000 transplants from Chinese donors had taken place, but that in nine out of ten cases it was not possible to determine whether consent had been given or not. But few researchers doubt that the organs harvested came from political prisoners. The fact is that Communist China will be able to supply exactly the organs required at any time. I would urge - as Article 8 of the Declaration points out - that the Danish Government, in its talks with the Chinese Government, protest against the disgusting traffic in excised organs and that doctors throughout the world be urged to refuse to cooperate.
